HB 5438 – Motorcycle and Bicycle Awareness Training

Good Morning,

We need your help!  HB5438, the House Bill that would mandate Motorcycle Awareness and Bicycle Awareness training for all Michigan driver’s education programs is now before the Senate Judiciary Committee.  It has passed out of the House, unanimously, and we need to get it through the Senate before the end of the year, or we will have to start all over again.  Before the full Senate can vote on this, it needs to be discharged, favorably, from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Senate Judiciary Committee consists of the following four (4) Senators:

  • Chairman = Rick Jones (R), District #24 (Grand Ledge).
  •  Members
    • Tory Rocca  (R), District #10 (Sterling Heights)
      • Contact info:
        • Sterling Heights office:  12481 Starlite Court, Sterling Heights, MI  48312.
        • Phone# 517.373.7315
        • Fax# 517.373.3126.
        • No email listed; contact him electronically through his website:  SenatorTorryRocca.com
    •  Tonya Shuitmaker (R), District #20 (Lawton).
    •  Steven Bieda (D), District#9 (Warren/Center Line/Roseville/Eastpointe)
      • Contact info:

Please contact the above Senators and let them know you want them to vote HB5438 out of the Judiciary Committee and bring it to the Senate floor for a full vote.  Stress the fact the bill passed out of the House UNANIMOUSLY, so there is no reason to hold it up.  The Senate is only in session until the end of June so time is of the essence.  Pass this along to anyone and everyone, and let’s get this bill passed into law, so that EVERY new driver in this state will have some exposure to our Motorcycle Awareness training.  Thank you for your time, and your efforts!
